BioNano Stationary Voltammetry Electrodes |
BioNano’s disk voltammetry electrodes are small and easy-to-use. All electrodes are designed and built to give the highest degree of flexibility and reliability. Each electrode is tested and certified for performance prior to shipment. All are manufactured in a solvent resistant Teflon plastic body (6.9 cm length x 6 mm OD) which is embedded with highly polished disks of various electrode materials (glassy carbon, gold, platinum, or tungsten). The electrode disk diameter is either 1.0 mm, 2.0 mm or 3.0 mm, depending on the material chosen. We are pleased to consult with you on custom fabrication of voltammetry electrodes using this same basic design and other materials (copper, tungsten, tin, silver, etc.). |
| |
A metal pin (1.0 cm) mounted in the plastic body of the electrode is used to connect these electrodes to an appropriate instrument using an alligator clip. |

BioNano Electrode Polishing Kits
- Polish electrodes for maximum experiment results and usage |
The electron transfer kinetics, and hence the current response, of redox-active species can be dramatically affected by the condition of the surface of the working electrode. Pretreatment of the electrode surface may therefore be necessary in order to obtain reproducible results. |
| |
Keeping the surfaces of electrodes clean will ensure more active and longer useful life of electrodes. Depending on the variation of usage, methods, and compositions, for maximum results, it is recommended to polish the electrode regularly especially when the voltammetric data begin to deteriorate. |
| |
Wiping or rinsing the electrode surface with water and/or methanol, followed by air drying, may be sufficient to remove adsorbed species and restore the working electrode to prime condition. Otherwise, polishing may be required, using the alumina polishes and the polishing pads of the BNI-120 polishing kit. Thorough rinsing is required after polishing. In addition, electrodes polished using µm alumina should be ultrasonically cleaned in deionized water for a few minutes, in order to remove any residual alumina. The progression of polishing should always proceed from coarse (1000 nm) to fine materials (50 nm), with thorough rinsing and a change of pads between each step. Fabric pads (attached to glass plates) are the substrates upon which the polish suspensions are applied. |
